For every booking we receive this year, we will donate £1 to Pratham, India’s largest educational NGO, with a mission to erase illiteracy amongst India’s 100million under privileged Children.

Last year we served over 14,000 passengers, therefore this year, Star Tours aims to donate over £14,000+ to charity; £1 for every passenger that travels with us.

Activities of Pratham

Pratham was started by UNICEF in 1994 with a mission to erase illiteracy amongst India’s 100 million underprivileged children. Pratham has already reached 33 million children since the launch of its “Read India” campaign in 2007.Utilising its ground-breaking teaching techniques, the Read India campaign is efficiently run by mobilising over 450,000 volunteers who currently work in more than half of India’s 600,000 villages.

The cost of education per village is a mere £12 per annum. Working with 22 state governments in India, teachers have been trained in Pratham’s ground breaking teaching techniques that help children improve their learning levels in 4-8 weeks.

Pratham’s other educational programs include:

Prevention, rehabilitation, repatriation, rescue and education of vulnerable and working children. Several skills programs to train young people in banking, hospitality and agriculture. Also includes English programs for 8-14 year olds to help build their basic conversational skills and Computer Aided Literacy for 6-18 year olds.

Pratham UK was formed in 2003 and it focuses on raising funds and awareness for Pratham’s work. Pratham UK holds several events throughout the year and the funds raised go towards supporting Pratham’s programs in India.

Activities of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha

In 2009 Star Tours donated £15,000 to BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha

The activities detailed below are few examples from 160 humanitarian services the charity is offering throughout the world in all spheres of life – medical, educational, environmental, spiritual and social. From recharging wells in rural India to providing aid to victims of natural disasters; from building schools for underprivileged young women to campaigning against harmful addictions; from inspiring individuals to lead a morally pure life to organizing cultural festivals attended by millions; from creating hospitals and clinics for the most deprived members of our society to providing free education in India…

To achieve this, BAPS has over 55,000 volunteers in over 9,000 centres and is in consultative status with the Economic & Social Council of the United Nations. BAPS believes in building better families, better communities, and better nations – one person at a time… for a better world and a better future.
