Typical optional excursions in Egypt may include evening sound-and-light shows, cultural performances, or visits to additional temples. A popular excursion is Abu Simbel, one of Egypts most famous archaeological sites.
Food
Breakfast will be provided at the hotels or on the cruise, usually continental style with tea, coffee, bread, cereals, fruit and yoghurt.

Hotels
Not all hotels or cruise cabins will have air-conditioning that runs 24/7. Carrying a small portable fan is recommended in warmer months.
Kettles are not always provided, so if hot water is required for warming milk, carry a travel kettle or thermos flask. Passengers may also want to bring a small travel iron or hairdryer, as these are not always available.
Hotels in Egypt often configure double rooms with two single beds joined together. This is common practice, so double beds are not guaranteed.
Any additional services such as phone calls, laundry, mini-bar or pay TV must be paid directly to the hotel or cruise reception at check-out.
Maximum occupancy per room or cabin is three persons.
Other Advisories
General
Passengers must carry their passport at all times in Egypt and present it to authorities if requested.
Health
Bottled water should always be used for drinking and brushing teeth, as tap water is not safe. Mosquito repellent and sunscreen are essential, especially on the cruise. Travel insurance is strongly advised, as medical costs must often be paid upfront.
Pick up and Drop off points & Times
Passengers should arrive at the airport where flights are done by Star Tours at the allocated time. If you are doing your own flights, then you will need to meet the tour rep directly at the arrival terminal at the destination.
You will be sent an ATOL certificate if your flights are done with Star Tours.
You should always follow the protocol for flights as set out by the airline. You should check the board at the airport for any flight delays, change of gate number or any other useful information provided by the airline.
Visas & Passports
British passport holders normally need a visa for Egypt.
-
Apply online via Visa2Egypt (valid for up to 3 months).
-
A visa on arrival is available for US$25 at approved kiosks in arrival halls (valid for 30 days).
-
Visas may also be obtained from Egyptian consulates before travel.
British nationals visiting Sharm el Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba or Taba resorts for up to 15 days receive a free entry stamp. Longer stays or travel outside these resorts requires a visa.
All other nationals should check with the Egyptian embassy.
Weather
Egypt has a hot, dry desert climate. February to April and October to November are the best months for sightseeing in Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and along the Nile, with warm days and cooler evenings. Sandstorms may occur between March and June. Summer temperatures often exceed 40°C, especially in Upper Egypt. Winters are mild with cool nights.
Wheelchairs
We will accept lightweight manual wheelchair for travel, subject to them being capable of being stowed in the luggage hold of the vehicle. It is also essential that a family member is also on tour to push the wheelchair. Star Tours will also request hotels for suitably equipped rooms; however, this is only on a request basis and cannot be guaranteed.
For us to request a wheelchair for you with the airline, this request should be made to us in writing at the time of booking. The allocation of the wheelchair will be at the discretion of the airline/airport.
